This is a tricky assertion. I write books, mostly technical books on software engineering. My books contain knowledge. They are published by commercial publishers. I am not funded by corporations or governments.

So are you claiming that people should be able to get my books for free (like those who illegally download pirated digital copies from many websites do)? Are you saying that I should give my books away, not earn money by selling them? If so, then what is my motivation for writing these books that contain knowledge?

Like everyone, I need to earn a living. If I create and provide knowledge-based products or services that provide value to others, am I not entitled to request compensation for that if I so choose?
